New Business Development Project Engineer

What You’ll Do

A New Business Development (NBD) Project Engineer at Royal works intimately with customers and internal business units to successfully pursue new business opportunities! They provide strong leadership to a cross-functional team which shares a high degree of ownership and accountability in support of a common goal - providing high quality solutions to our customers.   This role reports to the VP of Engineering and is based out of our Hudsonville, MI corporate office. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide the specialized technical expertise for new business development initiatives.
  • Execute Design for Manufacturing (DFM) evaluations for prospective projects, offering professional guidance on design optimization, quality enhancement, and cost mitigation.
  • Direct the development of quotations for new injection mold tooling, assembly machinery, and quality assurance gauging.
  • Partner with a cross-functional sales team to facilitate customer presentations, technical reviews, and quality audits.
  • Maintain rigorous standards of work quality and optimize operational efficiency to adhere to critical customer quotation schedules.
  • Travel to trade shows and prospective customer sites.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key customer representatives to ensure effective communication, align with critical objectives, and achieve superior levels of customer satisfaction throughout the quoting lifecycle.
  • Provide regular status reports to Royal Technologies executive leadership regarding new business development progress.
  • Implement systemic advancements to the New Business Development process to improve competitive positioning, timeliness, and successful acquisition rates.
  • Collaborate with business partners to foster a continuous improvement mindset throughout the organization.

What You’ll Bring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Substantial experience in plastic injection molding, including comprehensive knowledge of part design, mold tooling, and assembly processes and equipment.
  • Demonstrated program management experience within the automotive sector is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in the automotive or a related industry.
  • Comprehensive proficiency in IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced competency in interpreting technical specifications, product drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Highly autonomous, self-directed, and adaptable to evolving business needs.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on client relationship management.
  • Ability to lead professional meetings and present technical information in a structured and articulate manner.
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to execute complex tasks with significant urgency.
